Power has been restored to Portland Center Stage. Our Wednesday event will continue as scheduled. Thank you to all of our attendees, speakers, sponsors, staff, and vendors who supported us during this incident.
We have begun contingency planning for Wednesday's event. While our expectation is that Pacific Power will restore power for their affected customers in the downtown Portland area, there is a possibility that the outage will extend beyond their anticipated 21:00 PDT estimated recovery time. If this should occur, we hope to have alternate venue space to accommodate as many of our attendees as possible. We will release updates for tomorrow's schedule as we have information to share. Your continued patience and understanding during this outage is greatly appreciated.
We have successfully transitioned to our new venue. We lack attendee wifi but talks are running according to schedule, we have coffee and refreshments available, and the live stream is available for remote audiences. Thank you to everyone who made this partial recovery possible. We will continue to monitor the downtown Portland power outage and efforts by PGE to recover services to the affected residents and businesses. At this time our plan is to return to our original venue for talks on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. However, this is contingent on those repairs being completed successfully. Updates will continue to be published here throughout the day.
We have acquired alternate event space at the Pure Space venue for Tuesday's scheduled talks. We have seating for 500-600 and should be able to accommodate the vast majority of attendees. WiFi will be prioritized for speakers, staff, and the video livestream (please plan accordingly). We intend to open doors by 09:00 PDT for attendee seating with the first talk starting at 10:00 PDT as originally scheduled.
Due to an underground fire on the evening of May 22, 2017, many blocks of downtown Portland have lost power. This extends to the venue hosting this year's Monitorama. Power is not expected to fully recover until the evening of May 23, 2017. As a result of this outage we're looking at contingency plans for hosting the event, or parts of it, at an alternate location.
The team at Cloudability has generously offered space for 100 seats in their office at 334 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97209. At the time of this posting, it's our intent to make use of this space, hosting our Tuesday speakers, staff, the video team, and enough attendees that we can accommodate. Under this plan we would live stream all of Tuesday's talks, allowing most attendees to watch remotely from anywhere wifi is available.
We understand this is not ideal, and we appreciate the support that you've all expressed since this outage became known. If our primary venue at Portland Center Stage has power restored by 09:00 PDT May 23, 2017, we will resume our normal schedule at the original venue. Otherwise we will proceed with our contingency plan to host the Tuesday event at Cloudability. Either way we will broadcast all possible updates to our Twitter feed and post them to this page.

Monitorama takes place May 22-24, 2017 in the Gerding Theater at The Armory in Portland, Oregon. Our program consists of three days of single-track sessions and lightning talks designed to educate and inspire.
Our General Admission tickets are sold out, but you can join our waiting list. We will open up tickets if and when they become available. If you have any problems with your registration, please contact us by email or Twitter.

Monitorama PDX will be held in the Gerding Theater at The Armory (map), in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. The venue is a beautiful space, and also happens to be one of the greenest buildings in America. It's the first theater in the U.S. and the first building on the National Register of Historic Places to achieve a LEED Platinum rating. The venue address is 128 NW 11th Ave Portland, OR 97209.
Let's go for a hike! We'll leave the venue after the closing on Wednesday afternoon and head into the beautiful hills west of downtown. After a short walk through the city, we'll find ourselves in Portland's famous International Rose Test Garden. We'll stroll along trails in the hills, see the sun begin to set on the city, and then head back to the venue by 7:00PM. Plan for 30 minutes (two miles) of city walking to and from the hills and an hour (4-5 miles) of hiking among roses and along gentle hill trails in warm, dry afternoon weather. You can preview the route on Google maps.
We generally recommend The Mark Spencer Hotel, the Sentinel Hotel, or the Ace Hotel Portland. They're all walking distance from The Armory and have good reviews. Note that we do not encourage anyone to book their travel or hotel until you have your conference registration confirmed. There should be plenty of time to plan your travel and accommodations afterwards.

All delegates, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at any Monitorama event are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event.
Monitorama is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material.
Be careful in the words that you choose. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate for Monitorama.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately. Conference staff will be visible by their special badges and clothing.
Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all conference venues and conference-related social events.
